The Nationwide® RIA Referral Process
Nationwide is making it simpler for Registered Investment Advisors (RIAs) without an insurance license to make annuities and life insurance solutions available to your clients.
The stages below outline the process that RIAs and their clients will follow when a client considers a Nationwide annuity.
Prepare
- The Nationwide Wholesaler1 and RIA discuss the client’s specific situation/needs and identify potential solutions
- The Nationwide Wholesaler shares educational materials with the RIA; in turn, the RIA can share client-approved materials with their client for educational purposes
Refer
- The RIA suggests to their client that an insurance solution such as an annuity or life insurance product should be considered as part of their financial plan
- The RIA provides required financial information to a representative of Nationwide Securities LLC (NSLLC)2,3
- RIA receives a link to schedule a meeting between all parties - client, RIA and NSLLC Rep - to discuss potential solutions.
Recommend
- An NSLLC representative discusses the annuity or life insurance solution with the client and answers any additional questions they may have
- The NSLLC representative may recommend a specific solution based on the client’s specific needs
- The client may confirm the decision to move forward with a product recommendation
- The NSLLC representative prepares required paperwork, and the completed paperwork is delivered to the RIA and client for review and electronic signature4
Manage
After the contract is issued, the client can give the RIA permission to:
- View client policy information and transactions via nationwideadvisory.com (account creation required)
- Manage portfolio allocation
- Bill and receive advisory fees

[2] Nationwide Securities LLC is our retail broker/dealer. The representative is also licensed with our affiliated insurance agency, Nationwide Financial General Agency, and appointed with our life insurance companies.
[3] The RIA does not receive any compensation for referring their client to Nationwide or any of its affiliates.
[4] DocuSign is the technology that will be used for the client’s electronic signature. If electronic signature is not a viable option, other methods can be used to complete the application process.
